The European steel sector is at the center of a new chapter in the ongoing “trade war” between the European Union and the United States. According to Alessandro Fossati, owner of Gamma Trade, a Ticino-based company active in steel trading, the actual economic impact of the EU’s countermeasures is very limited.
Fossati points out that the European tariffs mostly affect niche products and do not significantly impact the broader economy. He adds that many protectionist measures, though intended as trade sanctions, often end up hurting consumers, who are forced to pay more for the same goods.
